Frequently asked questions
How much does a certified translation or legalization cost?
The price depends on the document, language, destination country, official fees and turnaround. We send an exact, free quote once we have seen your document.
Do I need to come in person?
In most cases, no. Email your documents for a quote, then send the originals by courier or hand them over if needed.
What is the difference between a certified and a sworn translation?
Both terms describe an official translation produced and signed by an authorised translator. The exact wording required depends on the destination country; we check what is expected before we start.
Do you need the original document?
A readable copy is enough for most translations. Some institutions require the translation to be bound to the original or to a certified true copy; your quote will say so.
Can a Cameroonian birth certificate be apostilled?
No. Cameroon is not a party to the Apostille Convention. A Cameroonian document for use abroad is legalized by the Ministry of External Relations (MINREX) and then by the embassy or consulate of the destination country.
My foreign document will be used in Cameroon: do I need an apostille?
As Cameroon does not recognise the apostille, a foreign document is normally legalized by the Cameroonian embassy in the issuing country. We confirm the procedure that applies to you.
Is MINREX legalization enough to use my document abroad?
Usually not: after MINREX, most countries require legalization by their embassy or consulate in Cameroon. We can handle both steps.
Do I need to travel to Yaoundé?
No. We handle submission and collection wherever you are, in Cameroon or abroad.
What is the difference between an apostille and consular legalization?
An apostille replaces the legalization chain between members of the Hague Convention. Cameroon is not a member, so its documents go through MINREX and then the embassy or consulate of the destination country.
How long does it take?
It varies widely by embassy: from a few days to several weeks when an authenticity check is requested. Your quote includes a realistic estimate.
Can a Cameroonian notary draw up a deed in English?
Yes, depending on the region and the notary. We point you to the option accepted by the destination country, with or without translation.
Do I need to attend in person?
To authenticate a signature, yes: the signatory must attend with ID. For a certified true copy, the original document is enough.
Is a copy certified in Cameroon valid abroad?
Often, but not always without legalization. We check whether the destination country requires the certification to be legalized.
How many copies do I need?
It depends on the institution; plan at least one copy per application. We advise you in the quote.
Is a power of attorney signed abroad valid in Cameroon?
It should normally be legalized by the Cameroonian embassy or consulate in the country of signature. We explain the steps for your country.
Can the power of attorney be bilingual?
Yes. A bilingual French-English document often avoids a separate translation in Cameroon. Other countries may still require a certified translation.
Can you obtain a document for a family member?
Yes, with a power of attorney from the person concerned or proof of relationship where the authority accepts it.
Do you ship abroad?
Yes, by tracked international courier.
How far in advance should I book?
As early as possible, especially for conferences and rare languages. For a short French-English appointment, a few days is often enough.
Do you provide booth equipment?
Yes, on request we arrange simultaneous interpreting equipment through our technical partners.
